BACE Spoken Word Talent Showcase

On February 28, noon to 1 p.m., come help BACE celebrate Black History Month with its first Talent Showcase! Recite a poem, sing a song, play an instrument, or perform a dance. Come out and enjoy these performances and learn some interesting facts about important icons in black history.

A $5.00 suggested donation will be for a program & light refreshment. All proceeds will benefit our BACE Scholarship Fund – 2024.

Time/Location: February 28, 2024, noon to 1 p.m.

Personal Life: Ron Kirk was the youngest of four children born on June 27, 1954 in Austin, Texas. His family was very politically active.  He grew up in a predominantly black community and attended Austin’s public schools.  He was a leader in high school, and was elected student council president in his senior year at John H. Early Years: Born the youngest of five in Center Point, Camp County, Texas in 1940, Barbara Smith Conrad and her siblings grew up exploring a variety of musical genres on the family piano and in their local Baptist church. AZIE TAYLOR MORTON

Born: February 1, 1936 in Dale, Texas

Accomplishment: Azie Taylor Morton, as of to date, is the only African American to hold the position of Treasurer of the United States. She was appointed by President Carter to serve as the 36th Treasurer of the United States. She served from September 12, 1977 through January 20, 1981 and her signature was printed on United States Currency during her tenure as Treasurer. Continue reading Black History: February 2016
