Dovie Greene Jackson was a native of Odessa, Texas. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in Management from the University of Texas at Permian Basin.

On January 29, 1998, a historical event, Texas Comptroller John Sharp, appointed the first women and African American, Dovie Greene Jackson, as Deputy Comptroller for the state of Texas, a constitutional position created in 1852. Dovie became second in command and was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the agency. She managed over 2800 employees and more than $45 billion annually. She had full authority to act on the Comptroller’s behalf as the State’s Chief Financial Officer.

Dovie’s unique skills and true greatness in leadership were demonstrated by her involvement in civic affairs and community activities acquired over a lifetime. Dovie was a charter member and President Emeritus of Black American Comptroller Employees Association, Inc. (BACE), a non-profit 501c (3). She was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Dovie’s last position at the Comptroller’s Office was being appointed as the Director of the Employee Engagement Division, where she managed and champion employee engagement initiatives and projects across the agency.

Dovie attributed her success to her parents and family, a Christian family. She stated that one should always put the Lord first, treat others as you want to be treated, and work very, very hard. Dovie’s foundation is based on the guidance and encouragement she received from her family. She learned at a very early age the importance of setting personal goals and that anything is possible if you believe in yourself.

Dovie enjoyed spending time with her family. Her cherished memories will live on by her husband Isaac and daughter Tracy; sons, Isaac Jr. and Chris; and grandchildren Shamar, Brittany, Brianna, and Dorian.
